Tesla rolls out new full self driving version with enhanced features

Investing.com– Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) has begun rolling out version 13.2 of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software, marking a significant update to its autonomous vehicle capabilities.

FSD V13.2 introduces several new features, including enhanced audio input for detecting emergency vehicles, improved end-to-end neural network processing for highway driving, and updates for parking and reversing functionality. Tesla claims the new version achieves a fourfold improvement in miles driven between driver interventions compared to earlier releases.

Additionally, the software integrates more precise collision avoidance and smoother navigation capabilities, powered by Tesla’s advanced “Cortex” AI training cluster.

The update is initially available to vehicles equipped with Tesla’s latest Hardware 4 (HW4) systems.

This update comes as Tesla continues refining its approach to fully autonomous driving, though the company has faced delays and challenges in meeting its ambitious rollout timelines. Previous updates, such as V12.5, expanded capabilities but fell short of achieving promised improvements in safety and autonomy metrics, based on user feedback and independent data analysis.

The rollout of FSD V13.2 is seen as a critical step toward broader deployment of Tesla’s autonomous technologies, including its robotaxi fleet. However, the update is only available for newer vehicles with HW4 systems, leaving owners of older models reliant on less advanced software.

Tesla’s continued advancements in FSD come amid regulatory scrutiny and increasing competition in the autonomous driving space, with rivals such as Waymo and Cruise also ramping up their capabilities.
