Japan stocks lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 1.63%

Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Textile, Power and Shipbuilding sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 1.63%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Eisai Co., Ltd. (TYO:4523), which rose 1.43% or 82.00 points to trade at 5,800.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Yamato Holdings Co., Ltd. (TYO:9064) added 0.97% or 15.50 points to end at 1,608.00 and Kyowa Kirin Co Ltd (TYO:4151) was up 0.88% or 28.00 points to 3,226.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (TYO:9531), which fell 5.60% or 198.00 points to trade at 3,340.00 at the close. Amada Co., Ltd. (TYO:6113) declined 5.19% or 75.00 points to end at 1,370.50 and Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. (TYO:9532) was down 5.06% or 178.00 points to 3,343.00.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 3364 to 360 and 129 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.05% to 28.13.

Crude oil for October delivery was up 1.11% or 0.73 to $66.48 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in November rose 1.08% or 0.75 to hit $69.94 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.42% or 10.75 to trade at $2,553.85 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.72% to 141.41, while EUR/JPY fell 0.51% to 156.17.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 101.38.
