India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 1.17%

Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Public Sector Undertakings, Oil & Gas and Banking sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 1.17%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.24%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN), which rose 0.97% or 70.10 points to trade at 7,315.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) added 0.87% or 28.25 points to end at 3,266.50 and JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) was up 0.60% or 5.55 points to 931.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were State Bank Of India (NS:SBI), which fell 4.26% or 34.85 points to trade at 783.90 at the close. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) declined 2.34% or 8.45 points to end at 352.25 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) was down 2.14% or 26.50 points to 1,209.45.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which rose 1.22% to 7,331.50, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was up 0.80% to settle at 3,263.60 and JSW Steel Ltd (BO:JSTL) which gained 0.79% to close at 932.35.

The worst performers were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 4.23% to 783.95 in late trade, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which lost 2.12% to settle at 395.00 and ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was down 2.09% to 1,210.05 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1795 to 653 and 22 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2399 fell and 1381 advanced, while 89 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 6.49% to 15.13.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.23% or 5.85 to $2,548.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.46% or 0.32 to hit $69.47 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.47% or 0.34 to trade at $73.03 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.03% to 83.96, while EUR/INR fell 0.06% to 93.27.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 100.97.
