Exxon Australian unit sued by competition watchdog over fuel claims

Investing.com– Exxon (NYSE:XOM) Mobil’s Australian unit was taken to court by the country’s competition watchdog on Tuesday over allegedly making misleading claims about fuel sold at six stations in North Queensland.

The Australian Consumer and Competition Commission said it had opened a case against Mobil Oil Australia, alleging that the company made false claims about selling premium fuel at certain Queensland sites between August 2020 and July 2024.

The stations claimed to be selling “Mobil Synergy fuel,” which contains certain additives, when in reality, Mobil did not supply the fuel to the stations, the ACCC alleged.

The watchdog said it was seeking penalties, but did not specify an amount.

Mobil Oil is a local unit of Exxon, and primarily operates fuel stations across the country.
