Canada stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite down 0.32%

Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Materials, IT and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.32%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were ARC Resources Ltd . (TSX:ARX), which rose 4.30% or 0.93 points to trade at 22.54 at the close. Meanwhile, Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. (TSX:AAV) added 4.19% or 0.37 points to end at 9.21 and Tourmaline Oil Corp . (TSX:TOU) was up 4.01% or 2.37 points to 61.41 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Fortuna Mining Corp (TSX:FVI), which fell 5.39% or 0.37 points to trade at 6.50 at the close. SilverCrest Metals Inc (TSX:SIL) declined 5.09% or 0.70 points to end at 13.06 and OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC) was down 5.09% or 0.20 points to 3.73.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 484 to 453 and 85 ended unchanged.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.93% to 10.84.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.73% or 19.80 to $2,675.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.39% or 0.94 to hit $68.61 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.20% or 0.85 to trade at $71.94 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.36% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.27% to 0.66.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 100.12.
