India stocks mixed at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.01%

Investing.com – India stocks were mixed after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Metals, Power and Oil & Gas sectors led shares higher while losses in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Healthcare and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.01% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.02%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC), which rose 4.25% or 6.54 points to trade at 160.53 at the close. Meanwhile, Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) added 3.95% or 27.30 points to end at 717.85 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) was up 2.61% or 8.90 points to 350.05 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL), which fell 2.91% or 55.80 points to trade at 1,864.35 at the close. Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) declined 2.58% or 78.00 points to end at 2,950.55 and Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) was down 1.78% or 47.60 points to 2,619.30.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 4.32% to 160.60, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was up 2.70% to settle at 350.25 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which gained 1.88% to close at 1,638.00.

The worst performers were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 2.46% to 2,953.30 in late trade, UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which lost 1.54% to settle at 11,786.75 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 1.16% to 1,448.40 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1398 to 1101 and 73 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1965 fell and 1834 advanced, while 90 ended unchanged.

Shares in Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) rose to all time highs; gaining 3.95% or 27.30 to 717.85.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.08% to 13.36.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.25% or 6.70 to $2,659.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 2.54% or 1.79 to hit $72.16 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 2.32% or 1.70 to trade at $74.91 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.14% to 83.65, while EUR/INR rose 0.33% to 93.15.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 100.49.
