EU to lower proposed tariffs on Tesla, other EVs from China, Bloomberg News reports

(Reuters) -The European Union will lower proposed tariffs on Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) and other electric vehicles (EVs) from China, Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

Tesla’s proposed tariff rate is said to drop to just below 8%, from 9%, the report said, adding that the bloc is making the revisions due to new information the companies provided.

The EU declined to comment, while Tesla did not immediately respond to a Reuters’ request for comment.

Last month, the EU reduced its planned extra tariff on Tesla EVs imported from China to 9%, from an initially indicated 20.8%.

At that time, the EU also said some Chinese companies in joint ventures with EU automakers may also receive lower planned punitive duties on Chinese-made EV imports.
